Minimizing Disruption
It's a thing often forgotten that when something is a problem, and you are thrown out and about in a bit of chaos from your normal life and environment, the thing you want most is to not have to worry about things. Even the normal day to day things. There are already so many worries, so many things to think about and stress over. The thing that is priceless is anyone that comes in to take that burden - to decrease decisions. Even a less-than-ideal decision being made for you is often better than having to shoulder the load of the decision yourself.
There is no "making things normal" in these situations, but there is certainly the chance to not increase the mental burden. And whether realizing it or not - this is about as much as one could ask for.
This is a self-critique more than anything - I am particularly poor at picking up the mental load of decision making in many cases, even during normal times.
